YES, I can tell it

Hello everyone!!

YES, I can tell it

The last Tuesday the 4th year Primary Teacher Training Students (Bilingual Group) had to carry out some activities to students from 2nd Primary Education of the school "Daoíz y Velarde". Also, we had to have into account to combine the fairy tales with the ICT's

.
The main objective of this activity was achieved that students identify what tale was, help to characters and look for the end. For that, they can use ICT and with different workshops resolve it.

Our proposal was formed with excellent and wonderful team. Our fairy tale was a classic. It is called Three little pigs. We believe that it is a good tale to use with children of because the story is very fun and short story.

Each member was a character in the story, I was a fairy that the children have to wake up, then I help them to look for new plan and win to wolf. But before I would like to explain in what our activity consist on.

The little pigs carried out the introduction of the tale. Then when they knew what this tale is, they did a workshops using ICT. Later they had to plan some solution because the wolf wanted to eat to three little pigs and they had to help them. So they need also the helps of additional characters: Mrs. Mouse, Mrs. Fairy and Mr. Lion. It was my moment; I though about a good plan to scared the wolf.

In my opinion I have to congratulate to my team. They realized a very good high work. In addition, I think that our students have a fun time and enjoyed a lot because they feel comfortable in class and they showed a good attitude during the activity.

See you in my next post.

Methodology to teach poetry

In my last post I was focused on some teaching resources that teacher can use on poetry. But now I am going to treat to the methodology. Poetry requires a lot of knowledge from the teacher and that it can take their students to the understanding, creation and imagination in the same, so, I hope give you some keys of this topic.

When you want to teach it there are three approaches that we have into account. These are:

Cultural approach: we need to establish connections between the context and poem, for example, they could learn historical and cultural circumstances as those related to authorship and these are relevant when reading a text.

Language approach: Poetry, in this case, is concentrated in the word, and how the author produces effects on the reader. Also, we can focus on interpretation and the meaning of it.

Personal approach: about this, teachers need to use this approach to cause, encourage the curiosity and feelings to students. Besides, they could transmit their thinks, feels or opinions.

That you can see you have to connected all of this when you teach because students have to feel part of it, involve them.
So  many teacher create a special place where students can feel emotions or compare with something nearer to them or they explain what story is happened in the poem through a bit role playing or performance or using a song but all of these ideas have to treated  through three approach.

In my opinion, I think that the most important thing is to make our students feel comfortable when learn poetry because there are many children that hate poetry for my reason but I believe that solution is on teachers.

Have a very good week classmate.

See you soon
Andrea.

Some Poetry Teaching Resources

Hello everyone

In this post I'm going to make a reflection about the last lesson. It was focused on Poetry. I would like to research about how e can change the perspective of this because most of children do not feel attraction with poetry and I want to give to some resources to get the maximum efficiency.
Poetry consisted on a type of literature, also it is written in verse, as opposed to prose, often written in metrical lines. These written are called poems. They usually have a rhythm, rhyme, metaphor, and other such artistic techniques to express an idea, feelings, or a story. But all is this, often is very bored and frustrated to children because they do not understand the vocabulary that use or how they have to do to create one.

Have you ever wondered how to get your students excited about poetry?
The Poetry Teaching Resources offers a lot of variety of materials to help us and our students to teach this.
Here you'll find graphic organizers and other resources to assist you and your students in exploring the power of poetry.
·         Poetic Thoughts Graphic Organizer

·         Literary Moods

·         Literary Mood Ring Graphic Organizer

·         Friendship Cinquain Activity

·         Poetry Terminology Cards

Also, there are some books that can help it. For example:

·         Poetry Matters by Ralph Fletcher
Poetry Matters is the most amazing book that as teacher as students can feel a little comfortable. It will change the way you think about poetry. It is ideal to use to in second year. The author shows why´s important in writing poetry because poets can break the rules so kids who normally have trouble writing seem to excel in writing free verse.

·         Poetry Books by Kristine O'Connell George
Kristine O'Connell George is another favorite children's author and poet. She writes simple yet beautiful poems that reach out to kids and connect with them.

I hope that like my post.  THANCK YOU

Looking for motivation…??

Looking for motivation…??

Hello everybody

I do not know if you have into account the type of assessment that our teacher is doing. Do you feel that it is useful? Do you feel motivated?

Raquel uses positive reinforcement or reward through prize or public recognition of our extra effort. She usually gives stickers for you individual or group effort, mentions your post in “Wall of fame” and does competition on Hogwarts' Wall, so there are different ways of motivation.
But, what is the positive reinforcement or reward?

Theoretically, teachers often have difficulties to find ways to motivate students. Some of them can lose the interest of the subject or not feel bound by the educational materials. Teachers have to find ways to increase student interest.
Here you can see some activities or resorces that can use  assess through it and motivate your students:

·         Games: it is a great motivation resource. It is very useful to Raquel. She uses in many activities every day. For example, the Frozen frame. The finality is that students can develop their knowledge and content on a fun way.

·         Reward: it is something that teacher gives to students that she considers that they are doing a high work or task. Moreover, rewards are usually stickers or something like than but the important point is publish recognition so this does that they are proud of themselves.

·         Decisions: sometimes it is important to give prominence to the class and they are they who have to decide who should receive a reward. This activity can be done through individual or team votes. As you can see we have had to vote, like authors’ activity and reading map.

·       Working in group: the students have to know work in group so like Raquel does with us instead of assessing students in the traditional way, students can demonstrate their knowledge of course content through competitions.

To conclude, I think that our teacher is a good example because she uses it at the appropriate time. In my opinion, it is important to make our students feel motivated for their learning process could be better. Therefore, our role as teachers is to promote their motivation through activities that capture your attention so in this topic Rachel is expert, she is a great example.

I hope that you consider my post useful in your future as teacher :)

Have a good bridge!!

Beatrix Potter

The last week in class we researched different authors. The author that we had to investigate was Beatrix Potter.

She is born the 28th July on 1866. She lived in Kensington, London. She was an English author, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist best known for her imaginative children’s books featuring animals in which she represented British landscape and country life.

So, like a good illustrator she begun when she was a child, Beatrix Potter was encouraged to draw. She spent many hours making intricate childhood sketches of animals and plants, revealing an early fascination for the natural world which would continue throughout her life.

Beatrix Potter kept many different kinds of pets such as rabbits, hedgehogs, mice, lizards, newts, frogs, bats and toads. When she wrote and illustrated her Peter Rabbit books, she knew all about the animal characters that she was creating as a result of having watched her own pets and their behaviour.

Her great book was The Tale of Peter Rabbit. It is a British children's book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter that follows mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit as he is chased about the garden of Mr. McGregor. He escapes and returns home to his mother who puts him.

Moreover it is so popular because there was a cartoon too about it.

To conclude, in my opinion I think that Beatrix Potter is a good author to use with children because use to points that are near of them. One of them is that she show their tale in little animal like mouse, rabbits, cats… and the other is she use a familiar context to create a special climax nearer. Besides, with her illustrations she show  very well what happen in each moment.

WELCOME/ Jolly Phonics/ Nursery Rhymes

Welcome everyone! This is my new and wonderful blog. It is called Andrea´s fount of wisdom.
In this blog, I am going to show my own thinking, feelings and ideas about how to teach English Literature that we have studied in class. Also, I will try to give good and objective opinions about your posts and your comments. I hope you'll have a fun time.

Now, I am going to tell something that I considered important when you have to teach English pronunciation for children, moreover, we have done in class the last week, and it is Jolly Phonics.

But, what it is?

Jolly Phonics is a fun and child approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. This method is very motivating for children and teachers, who can see their students achieve.

Students can to identify each sounds have each words. I have looked for a video that you can see how learn English students.

It also is a method that works on children's pronunciation using easy song. Moreover the principal aim is that each song includes one new sound of the English alphabet in different level of difficulty.

I don´t have any experience with this method of teaching but I would to use in my next practical period.

Other activity that we have done last Wednesday we had our first practical lesson to know Nursery Rhymes.

The term nursery rhyme is used for traditional poems and songs for young children in Britain and many other countries. It is considered like "Mother Goose Rhymes", also, it is still often used.

Also, Nursery Rhymes is a language approach for infant students because it introduce vocabulary, verb, structure that maybe children didn´t understand what the song was about.  Although in Primary Education, you can adapt the contents and the activities to the level of each class, and do that, as warming-up or to identify the previous knowledge with this type of chant.
You can find one exaple of a Nursery Rhymes, it is called "Ring a ring a roses".

In our opinion, Nursery Rhymes are very useful to create a wonderful climax on class and also how to learn to apply it as future teachers.

See you soon.

Andrea.
